Food

Food plays a very important role in my life. I love my food, am an avowed foodsnob and I love cooking for my family and for my husband. Having said that, I am neither creative nor especially good as a cook. Cooking for company makes me nervous.

Tomorrow night I am set to cook for a colleague of the Spouse's. I am mildly apprehensive. The colleague is French, which doesn't help. The French can be so particular about food (this guy seems pretty nice though). Btw, I notice that Americans call main courses Entrees. This is completely ridiculous. Entrees, purely linguistically, are starters. Not ever main courses. I mean seriously, if you are going to import word at least remember the meaning. Anyway, so I am making dinner for the three of us. Wish me luck.

Here's a recipe that's too intimidating for me to cook. I am making something easier.

Good luck. Don't worry: we enjoyed all the times you cooked for us!

Talking about food: we discovered an Italian restaurant here in Tienen with a separate grappa card :)

yes, there were times where I would attempt to impress by cooking (as well)...
What I can do in fact is just steal recepies and pass them as my own or just make experiments. It never ended up in a disaster, so you shouldn't be worried. And probably French people in the US have their food senses blurred (understandable...) so your guest will most likely be delighted with whatever delicious things you cook. And don't forget, let the wine flow :-)

oh, now I see, probably the cooking evening is over... see, renovation makes you lose track of time. or it is just Monday morning, attention span zero...

Hehe. Thanks guys. It went ok, I tried out a new recipe, and it was, well, reasonably good, not splendid but well. And the dinner last six and a half hours which does suggest that the guest did at least enjoy our company...also he ate a fair amount, which is encouraging...although maybe he was just really hungry.
